We Did

I live in North West Leicestershire on the border with Swadlincote.  Can I access facilities in Swadlincote such as the Leisure Centre for ‘free swimming’ as it is the nearest leisure centre to where I live?

Liberation Day-May 2009

We have emphasised in further publicity that if you are under 18 or over 60 that you can take part at any of the pools owned by South Derbyshire District Council (SDDC), which include Etwall Leisure Centre and Green Bank Leisure Centre. You can also use your card at other participating council-owned pools bordering our district and including those in East Staffordshire, NW Leicestershire and Derbyshire Dales.

I would like some clarification about ‘free swimming’; does it include lessons for non-swimmers?

Liberation Day-May 2009

Although the initiative only covers free public swim sessions, over the next few months the Council will be publicising  fantastic  opportunities available at our pools to learn to swim.

I feel sad that parks are being vandalised.  What is the Council doing to help?

Liberation Day-May 2009

A Service Review of anti-social behaviour in parks is underway, led by the Safer South Derbyshire Partnership. This will lead to changes in practice and how we deal with ASB issues.

We will ensure that there are security patrols of our parks in the summer holidays.

We are improving the marketing and publicity of our parks.

The war memorial in Eureka Park has been vandalised, needs restoration.

Liberation Day-May 2009

The Council is seeking Lottery funding to renovate Eureka Park, and the war memorial is included in the restoration works.

There is no community centre in Castle Gresley.  This would be very good for older people and if there were more activities for this age group in Castle/Church Gresley

Liberation Day-May 2009

As part of the 50+ Needs Survey a physical activity brochure has been produced detailing all local activities for 50+ people.  Activities for this group include the Castle Gresley health walk from the surgery, every Wednesday at 1pm (All welcome even if not registered with that surgery), 50+ activity mornings at Greenbank Leisure Centre, and the New to Exercise Scheme at Greenbank Leisure centre. The Get Active team can be contacted on 01283 563483 for further details.

We will ensure that the physical activity brochure is available in our leisure centres, libraries, GP surgeries and Rosliston Forestry Centre.  We will continue to promote leisure activities on our website so that people know what activities are available in the areas they live.

We will investigate the possibility of setting up a sheltered housing walk if there is a sheltered housing complex in Castle Gresley.  We will identify demand for an ‘extend class’ (gentle exercise for strength and balance) and we will investigate the possibility of setting up Nordic walking sessions in Maurice Lea Park.

I have a one-bedroom cottage and I have enquired about the council tax banding. The Council have said that someone will come out and look at the house, but no one has visited.

Liberation Day-May 2009

The matter has been raised again with the Valuation Officer Agency and we will await the outcome and keep the customer updated with the progress.

I am confused over the Housing stock options process.

Liberation Day-May 2009

The Director of Community Services wrote to all tenants in May 2009 to update them on the current position.   We will continue to update tenants of progress via the Housing newsletter and the Council’s Website.

Very happy with everything, especially Repairs Team.  Very unhappy about the sexuality question on the form.

Liberation Day-May 2009

We will make it clear when we ask this question that people can choose not to answer the question if they so wish.  However, the Council is committed to providing services fairly and making sure service users are not disadvantaged. To monitor and ensure the successful development of this policy, service users are asked to complete a survey so we can collect information that will help us improve the services we provide. Many people face discrimination because of their sexuality and for this reason we ask this monitoring question.

The District should hold more events for minority groups.

Liberation Day-May 2009

We will look at the events we hold such as sports coaching sessions for disabled people, supported walking schemes for groups e.g. 50+ groups, BME 50+ groups and disabled people’s groups and identify any gaps.

I want to recycle plastic, but have to travel to the tips in Derby to recycle it.

Liberation Day-May 2009

Details of recycling centres are available on the recycling pages of the website.  Plastic bottle recycling is available at 47 recycling centres in the Swadlincote area.

Street cleaning, have seen them sweep litter, grime into drains which then encourages flooding.

Liberation Day-May 2009

This is being monitored as part of cleaner South Derbyshire Campaign

Liberation Day-May 2009
